Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning were key topics. These concepts will be vital to the optimization of ground resources via enhanced predictability. AI can forecast delays, their extent, and even identify specific challenges at gates or times of day.

The panel concluded with some key observations on automation below the wing and technology implementation in general: the end customer’s requirements must always be the focus, all partners need to derive benefits, and investment needs to be at an industry level because of existing and future workforce challenges. The plus point is that there is a growing willingness for digital transformation.
