Today we'll make 3 versions of the same drink from Don the Beachcomber, The Mai Kai and Tropical Standard. Big thanks to Atomic Grog for the inspiration for this video, I was not aware of the full timeline of these drinks and it's fun to explore their evolution.

Which one was really my favorite? The Penang Punch from Tropical Standard. All were very good, but the most recent version has the most complexity and worked the best for me.

Penang Afrididi from Sippin Safari
6 drops Pernod
¼ oz fresh lime juice (7.5 ml)
½ oz pineapple juice (15 ml)
½ oz orange juice (15 ml)
½ oz passion fruit syrup (15 ml)
1 ½ oz white Puerto Rican rum (45 ml)
1 ½ oz amber Virgin Islands rum (45 ml)

Tribute to The Mai-Kai’s Zula #1*
By The Atomic Grog (v.2, updated November 2016)
2-3 sprigs of fresh mint muddled in Zombie or Collins Glass
Add in 1 cup of crushed ice and set aside
Build in a Drink Mixer Tin
3-4 drops Herbsaint or Pernod
⅛ oz falernum
½ oz rich simple syrup (15 ml)
½ oz orange juice (15 ml)
½ oz fresh lime juice (15 ml)
1 ½ oz pineapple juice (45 ml)
1 ½ oz oz Flor de Cana (45 ml)
1 ½ oz Appleton 8 (45 ml)

Tropical Standard Penang Punch
8-10 mint leaves
5 drops saline
¼ oz strained lime juice (7.5 ml)
½ oz passion fruit puree (15 ml)
½ oz strained pineapple juice (15 ml)
½ oz orange juice (15 ml)
½ oz cane syrup (15 ml)
1 tsp absinthe
1 ½ oz Rhum Barbancourt White (45 ml)
1 ½ oz English Harbour 5 Year - subbed in Chairman's (45 ml)
