Professor Laurence Dreyfus describes how Wagner's way of setting and altering motifs over the course of his 1848 opera, Lohengrin, reflects and enhances the drama. This video (and an essay also by Prof. Dreyfus) is supported by a digital companion – the Lohengrin TimeMachine – where you can explore how one motif, the Frageverbot (Forbidden Question) changes over the course of the opera.
