Russia launched its largest air assault on Ukraine since the war began, firing more than 800 drones and 13 missiles across the country, Ukraine’s air force said on Sunday.

Authorities reported at least four deaths, including a baby, and confirmed that Kyiv’s main government building was struck for the first time. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said in a video from inside the damaged building that the attack showed Moscow had no interest in peace, urging allies to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses.

Residential blocks in the capital were also hit, where officials said rescuers pulled the body of an infant from the rubble.

Russia’s defense ministry said the strikes targeted Ukraine’s military-industrial sites and transport infrastructure, according to Tass, while both sides denied aiming at civilians.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron to coordinate diplomatic steps, as European allies pledged continued support but held back on specific new commitments.

The attack came as President Vladimir Putin rejected calls for a ceasefire, citing closer ties with China. In Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was ready to move to a “second stage” of sanctions against Russia, though he offered no details.

Separately, Ukraine said it carried out an overnight strike on the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia’s Bryansk region, claiming “comprehensive fire damage.” Reuters confirmed the location of footage released by drone commander Robert Brovdi but could not verify when it was filmed.

Kyiv says such strikes on Russian energy assets are retaliation for Moscow’s continued bombardment and intended to weaken its war effort. Moscow has not commented.
