One way to challenge the feeling of the self—the feeling of being behind your eyes as a centered subject—is to use the spotlight of attention to briefly look for the spotlight itself. You look for the looker.
When you manage to turn attention back on itself like this, you can get brief moments of realizing that there is nothing there to find. The feeling of having a center to consciousness is an illusion, and like all illusions, it goes away when you look at it more closely.
