After sifting through a few apple cider cocktails I came upon this simple well-balanced one on Imbibe Magazine’s website. If you wish you could have the flavors of an apple pie in a cocktail, then this one is for you. If not, it’s definitely still worth a try. Something to use all those extra apples for.

Bourbon provides a solid base, standing up to the strength of the unfiltered apple juice. Lemon juice brightens while Benedictine, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg round out the flavors of the fall.

APPLE CIDER LOWBALL

INGREDIENTS
2 oz Bourbon
1 oz Unfiltered Apple Juice
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
1/2 oz Vanilla Syrup
1/4 oz Benedectine

GARNISH
Cinnamon stick, apple slice, grated nutmeg

METHOD
Add all ingredients to shaker, add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into rocks/lowball glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with cinnamon stick, slice of apple and grate/sprinkle nutmeg over the drink.

VANILLA SYRUP
Start by making 1:1 simple syrup. Dissolve sugar in an equal amount of hot water. Instead of simmering with a vanilla bean, add a couple of drops of vanilla essence to your measure of needed syrup. Taste and add as you need.
