(12 Aug 2019) Muslims in India offered prayers Monday to mark the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha, which commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim's test of faith.
Hundreds of Muslims prayed at the Jama Masjid, a New Delhi mosque built in the 17th century.
People embraced and wished each other Eid Mubarak, or a happy Eid.
After prayers, local resident Shakeel Ahmed said he wanted unity and peace to prevail in the country because "Hindus and Muslims are brothers."
Salahuddin Rayy, another local resident who said his ancestors helped build the Jama Masjid, hoped the people of India would continue to help each other during good and bad times.
On Eid-al Adha, the festival of sacrifice, Muslims slaughter livestock and distribute the meat to the poor. They also greet friends and family with gifts.
