Should Adventurer's Guilds Exist?

Adventurer's guilds are pretty ubiquitous in gaming and anime, but haven't made much of a mark in other forms of fantasy media. Today, I investigate whether the Adventurer's Guild Trope is historically justifiable, in terms of fantasy worldbuilding.
