The skills in this game are tied to what type of weapon is used Magic, Melee, or Ranged. Any skill regardless of use that is loaded into your skill tree of active skills will gain experience as you play. In addition the more you use a specific skill the faster it upgrades itself.

Every skill has modifiers after the first skill level (not player level). These skill levels allow you to add a single modifier or multiple modifiers based on the modifier point cost. The low level damage increases, range increases, or ailment. (After effects) % are usually 1 point. The higher more powerful modifiers are usually 2 or 3 points and you change this at any time for different situations or builds.

The other aspect of the skill is the Variable on the bottom middle of the screen, this is often missed. It changes the damage or effect type. In example teleport does electrical damage, or it can do shadow damage instead. Your Fireball (Ember spell) can be changed to toxic, shadow, frost or just keep it fire. This new game mechanic makes each build more unique based on player choices.

This is an excellent game mechanic to add without costing anything.
