Alright. Now, Truman's going to help me demonstrate how to teach your parrot to shake its head no. You can do it just like teaching the nod trick, like teaching your parrot to nod yes, by using the clicker and target stick to have them follow the stick left and right.

There's also another way to get them to shake their head more aggressively, which is to blow on their head. If you blow across their feathers or blow across their nose, they just naturally respond with a shaking motion, their head like this. Good boy. Very good. So, at that point it's just a matter of putting it on cue where you're going to show the cue sign that you're going to use. And I like to shake my finger no at the bird and then have him respond. So, all I'm going to do is blow across his feathers and shake my finger while saying something like 'shake' or 'no' and reward him as soon as he does it. Shake. Good boy.

We're going to try it again. Shake. Good boy. Very good. Good job. So, it's just a matter of blowing across their feathers and showing them the cue and practicing it enough times until they catch on that they've just got to shake their head when they hear the cue. And then you don't even have to blow on their feathers. They'll just be shaking their head to get the treat. And that's how you teach your parrot to shake its head no.
