Zeb was sent to us after being to another trainer; his owner said that she had been told he would be unsuitable as a driving pony as he had started rearing when being put to. In our opinion this was not because Zeb was a bad pony, but because he hadn't been taught properly. He was worried about the shafts on his side and what he was being asked to do. This film shows some of the training we did with him, putting him to in the yard. We ask various members of our team to put him to as well, and also have things going on around him while he is being put to (dogs walking around, stable door closing, horses being led past behind). This is to show how he behaves even with different handlers. He is happy standing still calmly with no one at his head, and even if the driver gets on the carriage but doesn't ask him to walk on straight away. He will turn sideways in the shafts in order to walk out of the yard, and does not rear when being put to.
