At Killer B Motorsport we prefer to use adhesive on our aftermarket Subaru oil pans (or sump as our friends across the pond call it). It provides a reliable seal for a critical component of your engine.

One drawback is removing the pan. The very adhesive that creates a strong seal, also makes removing the pan a real pain in the butt. This is why we included a threaded hole on the flange that you can use to "jack" the pan from the surface of the block. Using this feature makes removing the oil pan much easier.
