Sunday, February 26th, 2017 from 2-4pm

in the U.S. Bank Atrium at The Cowles Center

Of Jonathan Lethem’s The Ecstasy of Influence, the New York Times critic summarizes the book’s central trope: “For an artist, influence is everything.” The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts’ participatory lecture and panel series, the concept of the artist’s influences is a way to begin unraveling the histories that are part of the Twin Cities dance communities today.

The public talk highlights the incredible diversity of Native people who live and dance in the Twin Cities along with images provided by the Minnesota Historical Society.

This series is curated by Michèle Steinwald for The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts, in partnership with Judith Brin Ingber, choreographer and writer; Cecily Marcus, curator, and Kathryn Hujda, assistant curator, of the Performing Arts Archives at the University of Minnesota Libraries; Nancy Mason Hauser, videographer, and Linda Shapiro, choreographer and writer, founders of the Minnesota Dance Pioneers Oral History Project. The 2016-17 season’s events are in partnership with the hosts, Ashley Selmer (Sept 25), Maia Maiden (November 6), Rosy Simas (February 26) and Giselle Mejia (June 4).

Program supported by the Performing Arts Archives at the University of Minnesota Libraries.
