We take the kids on a half day halibut fishing charter with Alaska Costal Marine! Alaskan Costal Marine is a kid and family friendly charter company that provide you with all the gear you need to have a successful day at sea! Alaska has a 2 halibut per person per day limit and Alaska Costal Marine are experts at what they do and everyone on board got their limit.
Their boat, Spirit of Alaska, is in harbor on the Homer Spit. The Homer Spit is 4.5 miles of land jutting out from the Kenai Peninsula.
Our tour started at 7 A.M. and we motored out to the open ocean. Fishing in the summer in Homer Alaska should be on every fisherman's "bucket list".

Halibut is a very large species of flat fish. Halibut are bottom dwelling fish that spend most of their time near the bottom. We had to put heavy weights on our lines to get our lines to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

WARNING: This company is kid friendly, but you are responsible for the price of the rod if your kid lets it go flying overboard. Fishing with kids can quickly turn into fishing for kids. ha ha

We were there in August. Best time to go Halibut fishing is between June and September.

When we got to our fishing spot, guests were pulling 30lb halibuts left and right. Everyone on the boat got their to limit catch. Even my little guy got to tag two.

The crew fillets your catch as you motor back to land. At the dock, we were met by a company that flash freezes your catch and overnights it to your place back home.

We did take one of our Halibut fillets to a small shack on the harbor that fries up whatever you bring them and had a celebratory lunch on the dock.

This was one the highlights of our Alaskan vacation and I highly recommend fishing with your children before they grow up.
