I have explained the BuLi aggregates in hexane (hexamer), diethyl ether (tetramer), tetrahydrofuran (THF) (both tetramer and dimer), tetramethyl ethylenediamine (TMEDA) (dimer) and hexamethyl phosphoramide (HMPA) (monomer). Change in aggregation patterns influenced the reactivity of butyllithium.
