The World Bank Institute -- WBI -- connects policy makers and practitioners with global expertise, knowledge and practical experience. A grant from the Bank-Netherlands Partnership Program (BNPP) has enabled WBI's Health Systems Practice to better support reproductive health outcomes, through several initiatives.

The grant enabled a set of new case studies, commissioned by the Harvard School of Public Health, to be published in July. The cases illustrate a systematic approach to improving pharmaceutical procurement and emphasize how reproductive health care intersects with pharmaceutical policy. Investments in facilities, staff, and outreach will not translate into better maternal and reproductive health unless contraceptives and other drugs and supplies are available and reasonably priced.
The BNPP grant has also enabled the Health Systems' team to continue the very popular WBI course on "Achieving MDG5 -- Poverty Reduction, Reproductive Health and Health System Strengthening." The course is updated regularly and attracts three-to-four hundred applicants each year. There are now over thirteen hundred alumni from the global courses.
