Описание к видео Introspection (2016): Composer-in-Residence, Alex Shapiro debuts her piece at The Wyoming Festival

Composer-in-Residence, Alex Shapiro debuts her piece Introspection (2016)

with the musicians of The Wyoming Festival.

The Wyoming Festival is a gathering of new music composers and classical performers, held in August on Grand Teton National Park at the UW-NPS Research Station. The Wyoming Festival director is Anne M. Guzzo, a professor of music at University of Wyoming.

After a careful selection process, six composers were invited to work with professional chamber musicians from the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra, to create new music for the 100th Birthday of the National Parks.

Alex Shapiro (b. New York City, 1962) aligns note after note with the hope that at least a few of them will actually sound good next to each other. Her persistence at this activity, as well as non-fiction music writing, public speaking, arts advocacy volunteerism, wildlife photography, and the shameless instigation of insufferable puns on Facebook, has led to a happy life. Drawing from a broad musical palette that defies genre, Alex's acoustic and electroacoustic works are published by Activist Music, performed and broadcast daily, and can be found on over twenty commercial releases from record labels around the world. Alex lives on Washington State's remote San Juan Island, and when she's not composing, she can be found communing with the sea life, as seen on her music and photo-filled blog, www.notesfromthekelp.com and her website, www.alexshapiro.org.

Composer: Alex Shapiro

Musicians: Holly Mulcahy and Mary Corbett, violins; Anna Kruger, viola; Amy Leong, cello; Rick Barber, bass
