Haunted Walworth Castle Hotel: An Independent Review

An independent review of the Grade One listed Walworth Castle Hotel, which sits in 18 acres of woodlands in-between Durham and Darlington, in the North East of England. Walworth Castle Hotel was built in the 11th century and is owned by the Best Western group of hotels. It has 32 individually designed bedrooms and is a well-known venue for weddings together with its popular Murder Mystery evenings. It is a perfect venue for a romantic weekend away, especially if you enjoy staying in a haunted old castle. King James VI of Scotland stopped at Walworth Castle on his way down to London to be crowned King James I of England on 14 May 1603. The bridal suite was the actual room where King James himself stayed in during his time at Walworth Castle. The castle dungeon can also be booked out as an alternative wedding venue and the castle ballroom is the perfect setting for a wedding reception. The castle is supposed to be haunted by a castle maid who was bricked up behind the wall of the castle spiral staircase and guests have often heard her crying in distress.
