Ushaw College (now Ushaw Historic House, Chapels & Gardens) in County Duham - I pass these ruins quite a lot and its been on my radar for quite some time.

Aerial footage of the more forgotten, derelict corners of the estate, Ushaw's story starts in 1568 with the English College in Douai, France, training Catholic priests when it was risky back home. After the French Revolution displaced them in the 1790s, they returned to England.

In 1804, the foundation stone was laid here on this windswept hill near Ushaw Moor, and the college opened in 1808 as a major northern seminary.
It expanded massively in the Victorian era with Gothic Revival gems by architects like Pugin and Hansom chapels, libraries, gardens, even a model farm from 1851. It trained generations of priests until closing in 2011 due to declining vocations.

Today, much of the site is beautifully restored and open to the public as a historic house and events venue, but parts remain derelict and largely untouched; around a third of the estate (including the old Junior House by Edward Pugin for younger students, mothballed since the 1970s, plus the Hansom-designed Home Farm buildings) has been closed off for years.
These sections have suffered from decay, vandalism, and even incidents like a chapel fire, creating an eerie, atmospheric contrast to the vibrant restored areas.
