I debated upon dividing this video up into several videos, to avoid a lengthy one, but then decided to keep it as a continuous “story.” Some of the photos and video footage are poor quality, I know, but they are the only ones depicting the featured subject so I decided to share them, regardless, in order to provide at least a glimpse. I appreciate, too, that it can be annoying, when watching a video, to be prompted to, or to have to, pause it in order to read something, however, I included such material for whomever it might benefit, without adding extra time to the video.
Note: We didn’t see any Icebows (“frozen rainbows”), polar bears—though they were active earlier in the week--or the Will Rogers and Wiley Post Memorials in town or at crash site; we were unable to visit Point Barrow.
*Edit to ending statement: it is/remains a privilege to have visited.

Such a cozy place, in the Arctic Desert. They've really done a splendid job in providing comfort to "Lower '48ers."
The restaurant was very accommodating; they were most gracious and patient with my dietary requests. If in doubt, if you have special dietary needs/preferences, be sure to bring food with you to Barrow.

Joe, our guide during our tour around Barrow: he and his nephew, Lenny, were wonderful hosts. So many moving stories, so many fun facts. He is the captain of his own whale boat, so his first-hand knowledge of life in Barrow was enriching.

Additional info: "...the traditional umiak was made from a driftwood or whalebone frame pegged and lashed together, sometimes with antlers or ivory, over which walrus or Bearded seal skins are stretched. Oil, usually from seals would be used to coat and waterproof the seams."

These people don't just survive in a harsh place, they thrive, and celebrate it. In fact, thanks to their efforts, there is a renaissance to learn and live their heritage and culture. Some do leave, but most choose to stay.
