Why I LOVE Growing & Caring for Four O'Clock Flowers

Описание к видео Why I LOVE Growing & Caring for Four O'Clock Flowers

We're back at Jeff's garden for one last video about Four O'Clocks, an overlooked and misunderstood flower. They're easy to grow and have some unique traits, and I think you might find yourself planting these!

Four O'Clocks get a bad rap and are considered a weed in some gardening circles, but I'm a big fan of them. What you consider a "weed" is entirely up to you, though. We throw around the term for any unwanted species, but sometimes "weeds" have some great benefits!

The flowers are very pretty and bring a tropical flavor to your yard, almost like a small hibiscus. The flowers also cross-pollinate very easily, so you'll see a mix of colors and varieties, creating unique and interesting patterns. Not a picky plant, it will grow just about anywhere and makes a great ornamental.

Got a black thumb? No worries! These are VERY easy to grow. These plants were planted a couple of years ago, and you can see that they've been heavily pruned only to put out new growth again. They can easily grow to be a few feet tall and bush out quite a bit. They create a beautiful green filler with tons of flowers that will drop hundreds of seeds. They're also easy to transplant if you pull the root up.

When you decide to grow Four O'Clocks, they're a piece of cake to start. Just make sure the seeds have a little bit of moisture, and they'll take off. After they've grown for a season or so, you can cut them all the way back to the ground. You'll be rewarded with new growth again!

It is a pretty aggressive growing plant which earns it the "weed" tag by some people. Because it's such an easy and pretty plant to grow, though, I like to use them strategically. You can't really mess them up!
