Passo Rolle in Parco Naturale Paneveggio Pale di San Martino is like a hub for starting shorter and longer hikes of different styles and difficulties.
Generally, I can recommend hiking the not so famous peaks - because they offer great panorama on the surrounding famous ones: in case of Monte Castellazzo on the Pale di San Martino.
Due to unstable weather conditions and with wind and heavy rain forecast, we decided to take this short hike from Passo Rolle easily doable within half a day.
Monte Castellazzo has - like quite some mountains in this area - remains of World War I military positions. Whether it seems to fit or to contradict, I am not sure, but you can also find one of the Thinking Christs (Cristo Pensante) here asking hikers to "find time to think, to pray, and to smile".
The options for the personal well-being are Malga Rolle and - directly on our path - Rifugio Capanna Cervino, and Baita Segantini, all with nice local food.

Please, only go to the mountains well equipped - especially to the Dolomites. And, please, respect no fly zones - Parco Naturale Paneveggio Pale di San Martino is like all natural and national parks in Italy such a no fly zone.
