ABOUT THIS COLLABORATION
My trio collaboration with with Xosé and Hugo materialized from needing to put a group together for a gig in Galicia. "A Miña Burriña" is one of the tunes we prepared. Coincidentally, it's the first Galician tune I learned, and I learned it before ever setting foot in Spain—via a Skype jam from the San Simone Fiddle camp in San Simone, Spain to the Mike Block String Camp in Florida, US. It's a traditional Galician jota (spelled xota in Galician) and can be heard on other recordings with lyrics.

Two excerpts of other music we worked on can be heard in this video—A Bruixa by Antón Seoane (intro) and a traditional tune, Mirandesa (outro).

I loved the energy of playing with Xosé and Hugo. Needless to say, our gig was extremely fun.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
OTHERLANDS: A Global Music Exploration follows GRAMMY-nominated 5-string American fiddler Casey Driessen as he travels with his family to various countries across the globe to meet with local acoustic-based musicians with roots in their own traditions. Musical exchanges and travels are documented via audio, video and photography elements with collected materials released over the course of the project via his website and social media outlets and official musical releases likely to come at the end of travels.

OTHERLANDS is an independently designed and produced project that is self-contained with a small collection of audio and video equipment. All engineering and recording, including any post-production, can be set up, operated, and completed by Casey wherever on the globe he happens to be.
