Thanks to the Shire horses, Charlie and Joe, pulling an antique plough at Acton Scott Farm, Shropshire, England. Plough depth is about 6 inches.

Speed The Plow
Scotsman John Moorehead moved from Edinburgh to County Armagh in 1872. A talented violinist, he was offered the job of violinist for London’s Covent Garden Theatre in 1798. In 1799 he wrote this reel to commerorate Nelson's victory over the French at the Battle of The Nile and it was originally titled, The Naval Pillar in recognition of the erection of Nelson's statue in Trafalgar Square. It soon became very popular, a hit of the day after it was used in Thomas Morton's stage show, Speed The Plough. It's name was then changed to Speed The Plow.
The tune rapidly spread to the British colonies and in the United States, the thespian parents of Edgar Alan Poe starred in the play, the tune being far better received than the stage show.
Moorehead lived to see his creation become extremely popular but tracically he hanged himself in 1804.
The name Speed the Plow touches an ancient archetype in British Isles folk tradition going back to at least the 14th century and Plough Sunday is the first Monday after the twelve days of Christmas. The following inscription is to be found at Caston Church, Norfolk.
