Venezuela News: Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s Last Public Sighting Before Capture | US News

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro made his final public appearance on Friday, January 2, when he welcomed Chinese special envoy Qiu Xiaoqi at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas. Footage aired on Venezuelan state television showed Maduro exchanging gifts with the Chinese diplomat and holding talks alongside senior officials, including Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and Foreign Minister Yvan Gil. The meeting ended with a cordial farewell as the Chinese delegation departed the presidential palace.

Less than 24 hours later, the situation dramatically escalated. In the early hours of Saturday, January 3, U.S. military forces launched a large-scale strike on Caracas. U.S. President Donald Trump later announced that Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores had been captured and flown out of Venezuela, marking a major turning point in the country’s political crisis.
