Please read the description/textbox first.

This is a VLOG + a schematic where I show how an IR sensor unit out of a computer mouse can be tested and made (anew) usable for an electronic application, e.g. a counter, etc. More relevant info (from my part) in the comments section of this video.

This is (by the way) only the first step, showing the “working principle”.

This light sensor (light sluice) has to generate pulses. Originally, when moving the mouse, it drives the dot or the “arrow” on the computer screen. Via a gear disk that moves and thus blocks/let pass the IR light in the direction of the IR sensor, creating pulses when the mouse is moved on a surface.

Of course that refers to any mouse/unit where movements have to be translated into pulses, driving e.g. a computer, a switch circuit, etc, etc. via hardware/software, etc.

I found this IR unit (say) also in an electric autoped, in a light sluice that had to generate pulses to the electric motor, driving the motor of the autoped, via power MOSFETS.

This video shows that, when the infrared light out of the IR diode is blocked, the sensor drops down its resistance from 1000 Ohm to (say) 5 Ohm or so.

Thus that (= the resistance drop) is usable to make something switch "on" or "off" or generate electric pulses to drive something, say a motor.

This video shows only a very first step, though it shows essentials.

And when you know something about electronics you surely can find direct applications for this unit, taken out of a computer mouse.

The video shows that visible light has no effect on the switch properties in this case, because it switches via Infrared light (as far as I know).
