On October 13, 2024, Adlai Mestre, age 24, was arrested in Tijeras, New Mexico, following the deaths of three members of his immediate family. Deputies with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the East Mountains area of Bernalillo County.

According to investigators, deputies discovered that Mestre’s mother, father, and 17-year-old sister were fatally shot. Authorities also confirmed that the family dog was killed during the incident. Mestre was located outside the home and taken into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, law enforcement reported evidence of tampering at the scene, including attempts to clean up blood. Deputies later recovered the victims’ bodies near the property after Mestre directed officers to their location.

A Bernalillo County grand jury subsequently indicted Adlai Mestre on three counts of first-degree murder, along with multiple counts of tampering with evidence and animal cruelty. The case remains part of an ongoing criminal prosecution in New Mexico.
