Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Kerala state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that the state's official name be changed from ‘Kerala’ to ‘Keralam’. He stated that the name ‘Keralam’ is deeply connected to the Malayalam language and the cultural identity of the state. In his letter, Rajeev Chandrasekhar also mentioned that the Kerala Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution in June 2024, demanding that the state's name be changed from ‘Kerala’ to ‘Keralam’ in official documents. Chandrasekhar also stated that he has written to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He said that the BJP has always viewed this great state, which symbolizes its rich tradition and culture, as ‘Keralam’. The party's ideology is based on the preservation and respect of traditional, linguistic, and cultural heritage.
