What is Ramsay Hunt Syndrome?
As a child if we have had Chickenpox then it was caused by the Varicella-Zoster virus. The same virus can remain dormant or inactive in our nerves for years. Now, when the Varicella-Zoster virus reactivates we are said to have Shingles. Also, the reactivation of the Varicella-Zoster virus in the facial nerves near our ears is called Ramsay Hunt syndrome. It is said to affect 5 out of 100,000 people each year in the U.S. It is named after an American Army officer and neurologist who first described it in 1907. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome can cause facial nerve paralysis as well as hearing loss in the affected ear. It may also cause painful rash near our ears, face or mouth.https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health...
