In the early years of the twentieth century, NBC and Universal began creating their extraordinary legacies in the exciting new worlds of motion picture production and distribution, location-based entertainment, and radio and television production and broadcasting. Today, as one company under the ownership of Comcast, NBCUniversal continues to build on this legacy of quality and innovation.

Carl Laemmle (January 17, 1867 – September 24, 1939) pioneered American filmmaking and founded Universal Studios. Laemmle produced or worked on over 400 films.

Regarded as one of the most important of the early film pioneers, Laemmle was born in modern-day Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1884 and worked in Chicago for 20 years before he began buying nickelodeons, eventually expanding into a film distribution service, the Laemmle Film Service.

David Sarnoff (February 27, 1891 – December 12, 1971) was an American businessman and pioneer of American radio and television. Throughout his career, he led the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in various capacities from its founding in 1919 until his retirement in 1970.

He ruled over an ever-growing telecommunications and consumer electronics empire that included both RCA and NBC and became one of the largest companies in the world. Named a Reserve Brigadier General of the Signal Corps in 1945, Sarnoff, after that, was widely known as "The General."

Sarnoff is credited with Sarnoff's law, which states that the value of a broadcast network is proportional to the number of viewers.

Ralph Joel Roberts (March 13, 1920 – June 18, 2015) was an American businessman who founded Comcast, serving as its chief executive officer for 46 years. In 2011, he served as founder and chairman emeritus of Comcast's board of directors until his death.
