So, I decided to finally make myself a Mek, and since there are Titanosaurs on this map thanks to the Arkology mod, I said, let's tame one for funsies.
I've NEVER tamed this creature before, nor have I ever used the Mek. How did it go? Well, there was frustration, but lots of fun too.
I love the Mek. I know some people hate the abundance of the Tek tier at this point, and I get that, but it feels like it fits in the games lore, and its so cool. I can't hate it. It's also got the easiest method for taming the Titanosaur via its shoulder-mounted artillery cannon.
There are many attachments you can put on the Mek, and its pretty powerful, even in its basic primitive form.
Now, the way you tame the Titanosaur is by shooting it in the face with some form of explosive or catapults. Cannons, Rocket Launchers, and the Mek Cannon are all great for this, but the Mek is by far the best. However, the Titanosaur's jerky motions and small head hitbox can make this absolutely frustrating, and not in a good challenging way.
As for the Titanosaur itself, it was once the TERROR of PVP. Seeing a tribe show up with one of these usually meant every resource available was put into killing it, with the expectation that it would be nearly impossible to stop it doing some damage to the base it was attacking. It was one of the few creatures that could damage metal tier structures, and with a massive health pool, it was very hard to get rid of.
Because of this, WC balanced it by making it unbreedable, unlevelable, and unfeedable. This meant that it was a temporary tame, dying out once its food depleted and HP following suit.
Years later, it's still extremely powerful, but the limitations that once made it balanced now severely hinder it. With power creep and more creative creatures and taming methods, this thing is still strong, well worth the effort to get it, especially with a Mek, but now it just feels...lacking.
With only two very basic attacks and many of core functions that make taming and raising creatures in this game so much fun removed, I have to say, I think this thing is in DIRE need of a TLC. With additions like the Dreadnoughtus, taming this thing is pointless, pretty much, apart from its raiding potential.
It really needs to be levelable and breedable, given a saddle and graphics update, along with maybe one extra ability, and I think this creature would once more ascend to its legendary pedestal. As it is now, it's very strong, but not special.
