KTLA News: "Mascot for Los Angeles Olympics introduced" (1980)

The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.

Summary: Reporter Kenneth Gale covers a ceremony held at City Hall to promote the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics games. The mascot, Sam the Animated Eagle, is introduced, as is the official emblem for the 1984 Olympics. Councilman John Ferraro speaks about emphasizing the athletes instead of focusing on the facilities and the politics involved. Footage includes shots of the mascot (including it falling over and being helped up), Mayor Tom Bradley seated with other dignitaries, including Bob Hope, and two instances of Gale’s voiceover material, which lacks picture.
