In this lecture, we shall try to understand the draft system incorporated in power station boilers with a range of control to optimise the air flow within the boiler and to manage the flue gas evacuation from the system effectively.

The mechanism of forced, induced, and balanced draft systems and how the control of draft across the boiler passage is maintained for effective heat transfer in different heat transfer elements or heat traps are modulated and have also been discussed.

The various types of fans used in power station boilers and their salient functional and constructional features are also discussed.
