(22 Nov 2014) One of China's highest-ranking officials was received in Peru's Congress on Friday by lawmakers and was awarded one of the country's highest honours, The Great Cross medal, during a solemn session.
The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang arrived in Peru's capital Lima on Thursday for an official visit intended to strengthen and consolidate bilateral relations.
Ana Solorzano, Peru's Congress president, said during her speech that Dejiang's visit "undoubtedly contributes to strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between our governments and our people."
Later in the day, Dejiang met with Peruvian President Ollanta Humala at the Miraflores Presidential Palace.
Humala's cabinet and the Chinese delegation led by Dejiang held a meeting to talk about bilateral relations between both countries.
China is the second largest market for Peruvian exports and Chinese investments in the South American country exceeded six billion (b) US dollars in 2014, according to local media.
