Описание к видео About our village and our language – Timok Romanian (Vlach) Collection

Slavka Dinić’s gives insights into the daily life in the village and the use of the Romanian language in Luka.

Vanishing Languages and Cultural Heritage (VLACH) ID-number: timo1262RSV0012a

Description:
Slavka and Ljubiša are born in the village of Luka, a place that used to be populated mostly by Romanian/Vlach speakers in past, other groups have not merged with the local population. Nowadays school children have to drive to another village to attend school. The village has become more linked to the cities, but the number of people living there and speaking the language has also inevitably dwindled. Slavka's narrative comprises the short story of the rural everyday life in a small village and the nostalgia for past times, as she has not been feeling optimistic about the future of her mother tongue – her second language according to educational records – for quite some time now.
