According to testimony from Michael Cohen this week, Donald Trump knew that the release of the Access Hollywood tape would be a disaster for him among women, but he was confident that men would think it was awesome. Even in the middle of a scandal Trump was focused on how cool he would be, showing that his narcissism really knows no bounds. But the tape wasn't used the way it should have been during that campaign, and that's why the impact was so negligible, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Michael Cohen's testimony so far this week on Monday and Tuesday has been nothing short of a complete disaster for Donald Trump. Cohen has, of course, testified to the fact that Donald Trump had his hands in everything, all the hush money, payments, all the deals, all the catch and kill stories. Donald Trump was the guy who not only directed it all, but personally oversaw every single aspect of it. And that, of course, is key for the prosecution, uh, uh, to, to make their case. Their whole thing is, yes, Trump's the guy that did it. He directed it. He was involved in every aspect of it. And Michael Cohen said the same thing. But Cohen also said some other things that I also think are very relevant, uh, not necessarily to the legal case, but to the campaign. First and foremost, probably the most damning thing that I think that Michael Cohen said this week was the fact that when the Stormy Daniels story came out, which of course was right around the time that the Access Hollywood tape came out. So Donald Trump suddenly dealing with dual scandals just a couple weeks before the election. Cohen testified under oath that Donald Trump said at the time, quote, this is a disaster. This is a total disaster. Women are going to hate me. This is really is a disaster. Women are going to hate me. Guys will think it's cool, but this is a disaster for the campaign.
That statement right there tells you everything you need to know about Donald Trump's psyche, right? This is a disaster. Women are gonna hate me. I'm gonna lose the women voters dudes are gonna love it, right? I mean, look at these guys. Ah, they get it right? They understand, yeah, fist bump, but the women are gonna be. So even as he understands that, yes, politically speaking, this was horrible for him. Could have been, should have been. I gotta tell you, you know, just right off here, Hillary Clinton, the Democrats in 2016, did not do a good job with this information. This should have ended his entire, not just political career, like his career in general, should have been over at that point, like fully canceled after he was caught on tape on the Access Hollywood tape. Like, but no, they, the, the Clinton campaign had the ball at the one yard line, and all they had to do was walk it in, reach it over the goal line for the touchdown, and they fumbled it.
I, I, I'm sorry. They could have done so much more than they did with this. They dropped the ball on it, literally and figuratively in my little metaphor there. But either way, Trump's big concern was that the women were gonna hate him. But at the same time, he was comforted by the fact that the dudes are gonna think it's cool, right? I mean, what guy out there is not gonna be like, oh, hell yeah, man, he got nabbed a a, an adult film star, right, that's pretty badass, right? Is that really the kind of, uh, people you wanna be attracting Donald Trump, especially in a political party that loves to wrap themself up in the pa uh, pages of the Bible. But that's where his mind was, not only on how horrible it would be for his campaign, but about how cool every dude would think he is because he slept with a porn star and bragged about sexually assaulting women.
