Description of the documentary:
"Until the Light Takes Us" is a documentary by American filmmakers Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell, that came out in 2009. Its subject matter is the Norwegian black metal scene, and the interviews feature all of the most prominent Norwegian black metal artists of the early 1990s, as well as Bjarne Melgaard - a Norwegian visual artist famous for his crude and shocking art taking inspiration from black metal, the gay BDSM community, anti-religion and more.

This is the unused footage from the documentary, featuring more interviews and more in depth thoughts from the people portrayed in the documentary.

Disclaimers:
There are some strong scenes in this documentary featuring self harm by cutting, and lots of blood. It features homophobic language, and discusses the killing of a gay man. It features that picture of Dead, which I do not condone in any way. I think it's disrespectful and fucking stupid of the documentary to feature it (if you watch Helvete - Episode 2 you'll get an idea as to why we as fans should not keep on spreading that picture). Viewer discretion is adviced!

The documentary gained a lot of criticism for being a sort of honoring of, or a platform for Burzum/Varg Vikernes, with the title chosen, a lot of interviews with Varg and the last compilation, which some critics say seems like something someone with a crush on Varg would make. It does not challenge any viewpoints or raise any further questions to the subjects interviewed, and therefore can come of as shallow. Remember that there are more sides to the story than what Varg is saying happened. I do not condone any of Varg's actions or his political viewpoints. If you think true Norwegian black metal is about being a neo-nazi or a satanist, I'm sorry to inform you that you are mistaken.
