Intersection Syndrome Explained: Intersection Syndrome is a common overuse injury that affects the wrist, particularly at the crossing point where the tendons of the 1st and 2nd dorsal compartments intersect. In Figure 1, we see the anatomy of these dorsal compartments clearly, including tendons like the Abductor Pollicis Longus (APL), Extensor Pollicis Brevis (EPB), Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB), and Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus (ECRL). The problem arises at the location where these tendons intersect and glide over one another, causing friction, inflammation, and pain. It’s especially common in athletes and manual workers who frequently use repetitive wrist motions.
