Pavaghad is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India, Situated approx 50 km from Vadodara, a major Railroad & Airport to reach here.

Legend says that Kalika Mata Temple is the site where the toe of goddess Sati had dropped after being chopped by Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra.

To reach on top you need come to Machi Haveli from Champaner.
you can get Shared Taxi, Bus or even you can drive your Vehicle here too, Once you reach to Machi you have two choices to go uphill, one is by walk & another is by Ropeway (cable car), we decided to go via Ropeway.

Ropeway tickets are INR.116 per person (To & Fro) and kids INR.58.
you can buy tickets from Champaner also or from the start point too, during peak seasons like a festival or school vacations you might face huge crowd here so plan accordingly. After buying tickets we proceed further for Cable cars but we saw a very long queue, after spending around 2 hours finally we ride on the cable car & reach on top within a few munites.

Once you reach on top you need to walk for around 1 km to reach under the main hill on which this temple is situated, if you are unable to walk you can also get a palkhi also.

Now you need climb to uphill through 250 odd steps which are very steep, but you can take rest in between your journey while sitting on side steps. once you reach on top you need to remove your footwear here.

Photography is strictly prohibited here. Kalika Mata temple history dates back to the 10th century and 11th centuries and hence it is the oldest temple in this region. Originally, goddess Kalika Mata was worshipped by the local Patidar, Koli and Bhil community, until she was later invoked an idol of the goddess was installed by Vishvamitra on Pavagadh hill, where she is worshipped as an incarnation of Goddess Durga or Chandi. The central idol of Kalika Mata is depicted in the form of a red colored head, or 'Mukhwato'. She is flanked by idols of Goddess Kali on the right and Goddess Bahuchara on the left. after taking darshan of goddess when you exit, you found one stare going on a roof of the main temple, Sadanshah pir dargah situated on the top of Mahakali Mata Temple, According to records, the actual name of Sadanshah Faqir was Sahadev Joshi, and he was a Brahmin turned Muslim. He was a courtier of Muhammad Shah and Sahadev Joshi changed his faith to be accepted by Muhammad Shah, He had a role in saving the deity of Pavagadh from the iconoclasm of Muhammad Shah.

After taking blessings of Mata we proceed for our return journey.
while returning there was not much rush in Ropeway, we reach to Machi Haveli in about 10 to 15 mins.

Where to Stay :

There are not many hotels in here because most people come from Vadodara & return back, but if you want to stay you can find Gujarat Tourism's Guest House at Machi Haveli & in Champaner too, or you can stay at Jain Athithigruha or Dharamshala too.

Hope you all had a good time with us.
