As I prep for two separate adventure rides, I test my new Sunflair solar oven vs. my trusty DIY (do-it-yourself) tin foil over a carboard box vs. my own oven on the lowest temp to dehydrate my camp food.

The best hack to hydrate your dehydrated food to save fuel is to put a cup of dehydrated food in a small thermos in the morning, and cover it with boiling water over the food about 1/2". By dinner time, it is fully reconstituted, and ready to add to sautéed veggies with whatever sauce floats your boat.

I decided not to take the Sunflair solar oven on my longer 6 week adventure ride from LA to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and back, because space was at a premium. I just divided all of my dehydrated camp food into 1 cup measurements in ZipLoc baggies.

The DIY solar oven did just as good a job as the Sunflair solar oven on the successful raw crackers and wild rice. But, it was open to falling leaves and bugs. The Sunflair Solar Oven is a great portable oven/dehydrator for living off grid. But if you're on the fly on a motorcycle or any nomadic vehicle, you won't have the time to dehydrate on the road.
