"Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a charity single recorded by the supergroup Band Aid in 1984, written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. The song was created to raise awareness and funds for famine relief in Ethiopia, which was experiencing a devastating drought and famine at the time. The idea for the song came after Geldof saw a BBC report on the crisis and was moved to take action. He enlisted Ure to co-write the track and brought together an ensemble of popular British and Irish musicians, including members of Duran Duran, U2, Wham!, Culture Club, and other prominent acts of the era. The song's lyrics, which include the iconic refrain "Do they know it's Christmas time at all?", express a sense of urgency and empathy for those suffering from the famine.

The single was released on November 29, 1984, and became an immediate success, topping the charts in the UK and raising millions of pounds for the Ethiopian famine relief efforts. Its success also marked the beginning of the broader Live Aid movement, which culminated in the Live Aid concerts in 1985. The song has remained an enduring symbol of the power of music to mobilize people for humanitarian causes, with various artists and versions of the song emerging in subsequent years, including a 1989 re-recording and a 2004 version for Sudanese famine relief. Despite some criticisms over its portrayal of Africa and its perceived patronizing tone, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" is considered one of the most successful charity singles of all time and has left a lasting legacy in the world of music and philanthropy.
