Buskers, painters and fiddlers through the crowd on Grafton Street
Massive sales and giant ads on Penneys' window pane

The telly told unexpectedly that recession was begun
Dublin cried silently the death of its own voice
Ronnie Drew was gone in that rainy August Day

For the following months I walked night and day
Entering each pub only to apply for help
I searched almost everywhere but the answer was a "nay"
there was no longer work for anyone out there

When I went back, there was no one to wait for me
All me claimed friends avoided me but I never begged their help
