उत्तरी और दक्षिणी ध्रुव क्या है,
उत्तरी ध्रुव और दक्षिणी ध्रुव के बारे में वैसे तो बहुत लोग जानते ही होंगे लेकिन जो नहीं जानते हैं उनके लिए यहां प्रस्तुत है संक्षित जानकारी। अंग्रेजी में उत्तरी ध्रुव को नॉर्थ पोल और दक्षिणी ध्रुव को साउथ पोल कहते हैं। यह धरती के दो छोर है।
दोनों ही ध्रुवों पर लगभग 6 माह दिन और 6 माह रात रहती है। उत्तरी ध्रुव में 22 मार्च के लगभग सूर्य उदित होता है और 6 माह तक यहां पर दिन रहता है और इसके विपरीत दक्षिणी ध्रुव पर 6 माह तक रात बनी रहती है। फिर 23 सितम्बर आते-आते दक्षिणी ध्रुव सूर्य के समक्ष आ जाता है और यहां 6 महीने तक सूर्य उदित रहता है तो यहां पर 6 माह तक दिन रहता है और इसके विपरीत उत्तरी ध्रुव पर 6 माह रात बनी रहती है।
जो भी देश या इनकी सीमाएं उत्तरी या दक्षिणी ध्रुव से लगती है वहां भी अमूमन इतने ही समय दिन और रात रहते हैं। उत्तरी ध्रुव में स्थित देश- कनाडा, ग्रीनलैंड, रूस, आइसलैंड, नोर्वे और स्वीडन है जबकि दक्षिणी ध्रुव में स्थित अंटार्कटिक महाद्वीप है जहां किसी भी प्रकार की आबादी नहीं है।
उत्तरी ध्रुव क्षेत्र में अर्धरात्रि के सूर्य (मिडनाइट सन) और ध्रुवीय रात (पोलर नाइट) का दृश्य भी देखने को मिलता है।
