PATRANI MACHCHI

Ingredients

1 medium pomfret, cut into darnes
½ cup scraped fresh coconut
¼ cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
15-20 fresh mint leaves
2 green chillies
2-3 garlic cloves
¼ tsp sugar
2 tsps lemon juice
Salt to taste
1-2 banana leaves, cut into 6 inch pieces

Method

1. Put coconut in a blender jar, add coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies, garlic, sugar, lemon juice, salt and ¼ cup water and blend to a fine paste.
2. Take fish darnes in a bowl, add salt, and 2 tbsps of the blended paste and rub till the fish darnes are well coated.
3. Gently heat the banana leaves on direct flame.
4. To make the patrani machchi, take a banana leaf, place a portion of the blended paste, place a fish darn on it, and add a small portion of the paste. Fold the sides to form a parcel and secure it with a thread.
5. Heat sufficient water in a steamer, place the prepared parcels on the steamer plate and steam for 10-12 minutes.
6. Remove the patrani machchi out of the steamer and place on a serving plate. Discard the thread and serve hot.
