Vivaldi. Opera Dorilla in Tempe
Zeus banishes Apollo from heaven to earth after he kills the Cyclopes to avenge his son Asclepius. In Thessaly, Apollo disguises himself as the shepherd Nomio and falls in love with Princess Dorilla. But Dorilla is already in love with the shepherd Elmira, while the nymph Eudamia loves Elmira, and she herself is pursued by the shepherd Philindo.

Meanwhile, the monster Python devastates the kingdom. The oracle declares that Dorilla must be sacrificed to save the land. Resigned, she faces her fate, but Nomio-Apollo kills the beast with his bow. As a reward, he demands Dorilla’s hand, and her father King Admetus agrees, despite her love for Elmira.

The lovers try to escape but are caught. Elmira is condemned to death, and Dorilla, desperate, throws herself into the river. At this moment, Apollo reveals his divine nature, saves her, and renounces his claim. In the end, love prevails: Dorilla is united with Elmira, and Eudamia with Philindo.
