Conversations with Prof. Derrick A. Bell, NYU Law School (October 28, 1996)

On October 28, 1996, Professor Derrick A. Bell of New York University School of Law, author of "Gospel Choirs," returned to the Law School for a discussion about his new book and his work on issues of race, civil rights, and constitutional rights. (In 1993, Professor Bell offered the 3rd Braun Memorial Distinguished Lecture.) A vigilant advocate of racial justice and equality, Professor Bell lived his beliefs throughout his career, having resigned as Dean of Oregon Law and as a professor at Harvard Law over refusals to grant tenure to faculty of color. Before his years in academia, he worked for the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
