Hi, everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install these Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops on our 2015 Toyota 4Runner. Now, before we get to the suspension, I do wanna check out how the stock suspension on the 4Runner performs. We've got it completely unloaded right now and I wanna take a measurement of what our ride height is. I'm gonna go from the ground to the top inside edge of the wheel well, here, which is 37". We're gonna load up the hitch and get some weight on here, see how much it sags, take it through the test course, and see how it feels.

We'll install our new suspension and see how it performs after. For our purposes today, we're gonna be loading up a cargo carrier. Now, the carrier itself weighs about 48 pounds. For the ease of math, I'm gonna call it 45, just underestimate a little bit. And we're gonna load this up with some weight to simulate some tongue weight.

We'll start off with two 45-pound plates. That'll bring our total to 135 right now. Then, we'll do these 25-pound plates. I've got four of those in total. That'll bring our total up to 235.

Plus, we've got these three 60-pound bags of concrete, bring our total up to 415 pounds. Everything's strapped down. Let's take ourselves back over to the wheel well, here, take that same measurement we did before and see how much it's dropped down. And by quite a bit. We're at 35 1/4", there, so we've got 1 3/4" of drop.

Let's take it to the test course, see how it feels. And on our test course, I'd say the 4Runner performed fairly okay, although on our speed bumps, we didn't make any contact with the factory jounce bumpers, you can definitely feel all the weight back there. All the bouncing up and down is pretty harsh, and if you had any more weight on the hitch, maybe, say, you've got a heavy camper or a trailer on there, or maybe we've got some hitch-mounted accessories and we're going off road where it's gonna be a little bit more aggressive and bumpy, you could definitely feel that and start bottoming out on that factory jounce bumper. And after installing the new bumpstops from Timbren, we have a new measurement to get. That's gonna be the comparison of how much the vehicle is squatting now as it was before. Now, with the same load in there arranged in the exact same way, we're actually down at the exact same measurement, 35 1/4". So, we're not getting any additional rise from the Timbrens. With that being said, we have already taken this out on the test course, and where we did notice a very big difference is how it felt when driving. The best way I can describe it to you is, without the aftermarket suspension enhancement, with just the factory bumpstops, everything felt very floaty. Whenever we would hit a bump, everything just felt like it bounced a lot more and it was very slow to correct itself. With the new Timbrens, everything felt like it was a bit stiffer. Whenever we hit a bump, you definitely still feel it, but it wasn't as floaty. It felt like it corrected much quicker. And especially on the side-to-side action in our test course, we felt like there wasn't really much body roll at all. So, that's where it really made the biggest difference, is just the overall ride quality and how quickly it corrected itself when reacting to that weight. These Timbren bumpstops are gonna really consist of two main pieces. You've got the bracket for our bolt-on installation. It's sized to fit our 4Runner, so there's no drilling required for the installation, like we'll see later. And, then you've got the bumpstop itself. It's going to be made of a thick rubber material with a progressive load, so as it gets pressure on it, slowly over time, as there's more pressure, it'll work harder to return our vehicle back to its natural ride height. With that being said, there's gonna be two versions of this. We've got the active off-road suspension installed right now, as well as the regular SES system. The main difference between those two is this is the regular one, and the active off-road one has a small cap between the bumpstop and the plate. That's really designed for if you've got some larger off-road tires, just to give a little bit of protection so that the tires don't bump into this piece, here. T
