Inner Mongolian Artist recognized by National Immigration Agency｜Taiwan News

An artist from Inner Mongolia has won an award from the National Immigration Agency. Lin Feng, who works in various media including pyrography and seal carving, takes both Mongolia and Taiwan as inspiration for his work. Now Lin’s work is featured in a project for new immigrants and is on show in Pingtung. After more than two decades in his adopted home, he says he’s delighted to have a way to give back to Taiwanese society.

Lin Feng is an artist from Inner Mongolia. He settled in Taiwan more than 20 years ago after falling in love. He creates pyrography images of Inner Mongolia’s plains and natural landscapes, as well as its history and culture.

Lin combines art and culture and has been dedicated to promoting Inner Mongolian culture for many years. Now he’s been selected for a project for new immigrants run by the National Immigration Agency. He’s promoting his work at five locations in Pingtung and many more people are coming across his eye-catching work.

I want to take this tiny distinguishing trait of mine and find a way to pay back the people of Taiwan. When things were very difficult for me, lots of people encouraged me in all kinds of ways. So I’ve taken my thoughts from many years and just latched them onto this project. In so doing, I’ve fulfilled my dream which has always been to serve the people of Taiwan and give back to Taiwanese society.

Lin started painting, calligraphy and seal carving as a child. He has held solo exhibitions, and in 2020, he made a pyrography drawing of his son, winning a Japanese pyrography competition.

I drew my son when he just turned one month old. I wanted his eyes to be as clear and innocent as crystals.

Lin’s work reflects the beauty of his homeland and culture, but also his life in his adopted home Taiwan, and his passion and thanks for the welcome he’s received here. He says the project is extremely meaningful for him.
