How does the Lord choose His apostles?

How did Jesus choose the 12 disciples? How many apostles are in the New Testament?

Mark 3:13 And he goeth up into the mountain, and calleth unto him whom he himself would; and they went unto him. 14 And he appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15 and to have authority to cast out demons: 

Luk 6:13 And when it was day, he called his disciples; and he chose from them twelve, whom also he named apostles: 

What attributes in a man is Jesus looking for in apostles?

Hawks and eagles have excellent hearing and sight. They dwell in the heavens; they tear and devour "flesh." They are a term used to describe "warrior" or "warlike." They are overcomers.

Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning cometh forth from the east, and is seen even unto the west; so shall be the coming of the Son of man. 28 Wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together. 

The "ravenous bird" from the East in the following verse represents the manchild ministry, which the Lord has been teaching and preparing now for the last days of tribulation.

Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me; 10 declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done; saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure; 11 calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country; yea, I have spoken, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed, I will also do it.

He saw a couple hawks flying over him, and he called to them, and eventually, 24 hawks came circling above him.
