In today’s video, I’m going to show you how to upload and share files in Google Drive.
To get started:
1. Open up your browser, and type in drive.google.com, and hit the enter key on your keyboard.
2. You’ll now be taken to Google drive. If you’re not signed in, you’ll need to sign in using your Google credentials.
3. Now from Google Drive, you can easily upload any files from your computer by clicking on the “New” button, and then clicking on the “File upload” menu option.
4. A windows file explorer dialog window will now appear, and from here you can select any file from your computer to upload.
5. I’m going to select this YouTube thumbnail image that I created from my downloads folder.
6. Now click on the “Open” button.
7. The file will now begin to upload, and you can see its progress in the bottom right of the screen.
8. Now that the file has finished uploading, refresh your browser to be able to see it.
9. And as you can see, we now have the file in our Google drive.
10. To share this file with someone else, click on the 3 dots next to the file, and click on the “Share” menu option, and then “Share” again.
11. This modal will now display.
12. From here you can type in the email address of the person you would like to share the file with. I’m going to type in the email address of my other Google account.
13. Once you’ve entered the email address, you can select the type of access you would like to give to the recipient from the dropdown field on the right.
14. As you can see, there is viewer access, commenter access, and editor access.
15. Viewer access only allows the recipient to view the shared file, which is perfect if you’re not wanting someone to make changes to it, especially if it’s a document. The commenter access gives the same privileges as the viewer access, but the recipient can comment on files and documents.
16. And last but not least, the editor access allows the recipient to reshare the file, edit it, download it, and delete it.
17. For demo purposes, I’m going to select “Editor”.
18. Then below this, there is a message field. You can enter a message for the recipient to see when you share the file or document.
19. Now to finish sharing this file, click on the “Send” button.
20. The file will now be shared with the recipient, and they’ll be able to access it.
21. You can also share a file by right clicking on it, and clicking on the “Share” menu option, and then clicking on the “Copy link” option.
22. Your file share link will now be copied to your computer’s clipboard. You can now paste this link and send it to anyone for them to view your file.
And it’s as easy as that, uploading and sharing a file in Google Drive is an easy task to perform.
